La Manga Club hosts the European Under-18 Team Golf tournament

La Manga Club will again be the venue for the 2017 European Under-18 Boys Team Championship, which takes place from 11 to 15 July.

The 2017 European Under-18 Boys Team Championship is officially underway. It comes to its conclusion on Saturday 15. The facilities of the La Manga Club have already witnessed the training sessions of many of the teams taking part, who have been practising their swings and enjoying the resort for a few days now. Nearly one hundred young golfers from sixteen different countries will compete in a tight competition: the players come from Spain, Germany, Austria, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Denmark, Finland, France, England, Ireland, Italy, Holland, Norway, the Czech Republic and Sweden. Spain and France start at 7:00 in the morning on the 1st Tee of the South Course.

The competition format is two days of strokeplay as qualifying for the subsequent knockout matches for the title. Teams must finish in one of the top eight places in order to play for the title. The Spanish team is taking six young players to the competition at the La Manga Club who have been emerging in recent years, among them is the current under-18 champion of Spain, Alejandro Aguilera. Spanish team captain Carlos Corral and coach Yago Beamonte also have Madrid natives Eugenio López-Chacarra and Ignacio Montero, Gonzalo Leal from Seville, San Sebastian native Borja Martín and Eduard Rousaud from Barcelona among their ranks.

Spain has won this tournament six times (1980, 1990, 1996, 1997, 2002 and 2011). Winning the latest of their titles in the Czech Republic with Pep Anglés, Adriá Arnaus, David Morago, Mario Galiano, Jon Rahm and Javier Sainz, captained by Asis de Bastida himself and assisted by coach Domingo Hospital.
